About Us

Hi there!  We are Swimming Jewels Aquatic Gardens.

Well, actually we are Dylan and Rikki, people just like you who love aquatic life. Located in Lake Country, British Columbia, we hope to become the Okanagan’s source for everything pond related. 

Our humble beginning was made possible when Okanagan Koi and Water Gardens retired from doing business. Without the help, generosity, knowledge and background support of Dayleen & Eduard we would not have started.

When we created our pond Okanagan Koi was our source for all our supplies. We also learned that as beginners we knew very little about ponds. Their knowledge became invaluable and we have since learned a great deal about ponds and keeping healthy koi. Which we now hope to share with you!

We are thrilled to invite you to join us on our journey to create beautiful aquatic gardens. We will continuing learning all we can about caring for Koi, water plants and now most of all you - our clients.  

It’s has been a whirlwind since the day we spoke with Dayleen and Eduard about carrying on their legacy. There has been much to do as we embark upon this new adventure.

Year 2 - Update

Here we are nearing the end of winter with our ponds still frozen over. With some time to reflect, we are looking forward to our second year of business and back on our first year. The first season went by in a blink. Nonetheless, lots did happen so we thought it was time to update everyone by sharing a few highlights of the first season with you.

With the return of spring 2022 came the return of the Koi lady. Dayleen & Eduard from Okanagan Koi hosted a spring treatment tutorial at Swimming Jewels. We had an excellent turnout and many eager pond lovers had all their itching questions answered by the expert. Spring was cool but the weather eventually warmed and the buds began to appear. 

Mother’s Day weekend signalled it was time for all of us to start planting our ponds again. With the arrival of hundreds of pond plants there was no shortage of variety for everyone to choose from. The bloom of spring was upon us.

In the Summer Dayleen & Eduard returned for one final tutorial and goodbye before setting off on their new chapter in Mexico. They hosted a pond building tutorial at Swimming Jewels and in a few days time all attendees received a hands on pond building experience. It was a once in a lifetime opportunity to learn all the tricks of the trade from the Koi Lady.

As the season began to change and cool off, Fall was in the air when we started our largest project of the year. A nearly 30,000 gallon koi pond. In a span of two weeks a chunk of lawn was turned into a lake. The headwaters flow from a cave before splitting into two creeks that cascade down a two foot slope. The streams rejoin to form a large four foot waterfall into the pond. A koi lover’s dream come true. 

Well that pretty much sums up year 1. We learned a great deal in our first year and met a lot of wonderful people. We look forward to sharing our knowledge with everyone and seeing you all again in year 2.
